Beyond The Cloudspine

This level is actually a remake of an earlier level from Myth TFL, "Force Ten From Stoneheim". It is sixty years later and a season earlier, so some things have changed, but there are a lot of similarities. Lets take a look.

Here were see the overhead maps of the two levels. It is obvious that they are the same location. You can also see some noticable changes, mostly the way that the paths have shifted over the decades.

The first similarity you will see, looking to your left from the starting point, is the waterfall. Shown to the left here is a split-screen of the waterfall from both levels, TFL on the left and Myth II on the right. Most of the changes can be attributed to the seasons.

Following down the west path (and we'll come back to paths later), you will see something else that looks vaguely familiar. Remember this hill?

Oh my! Someone seems to have knocked down our idol! (Circled in red because these pictures are so small). Lets go check it out, make sure it's not damaged...

Thanks to Myth II's enhanced graphics, we can finally read what this mysterious idol says. For those who don't read JPEGish, it says "Frankenstein Computer God", and below that "Place Offering Here You Parroting Puppet".

Back in the TFL days, there was much flurry in the Myth's story community about what, exactly, was featured on that idol. A Ghol, some thought. Others claimed it looked like Cthulu. Still others insisted that it was a Pfhor from Bungie's previous series Marathon, and that that was proof of a distinct connection between the two series. (Most of Bungie's previous games have proven to have ties together; Pathways into Darkness featured the Jjaro, who were also present in the Marathon series. The games before PiD had no real stories to speak of, and thus couldn't tie into the Bungieverse).

It seems Bungie was paying attention to all of our wild conspiracy theories, for when you move a Dwarf near the fallen idol on this level he will say one of two things: either, "So, they've finally toppled the Mad, Deadly, Worldwide, Gangster, Communist, Frankenstein Computer God!", or "So, they've finally thrown of the shackles of Mad, Deadly, Worldwide, Gangster, Communist, Radio Earphone Slavery!". These are, in my opinion, the two greatest lines in the entire series, perhaps tied with the Latin Trow graffiti "You kiss your mother with that mouth?"

When you reach the end of the level, you must repair the World knot which you destroyed 60 years earlier on "Force Ten From Stoneheim". Here we see the broken Knot in Myth II to the left, and the intact Knot from TFL to the right. As your Dwarves repair it, one may say "Hey, we did it! Dari owes me twenty big ones!"

Lastly, the alternate paths for this level. All the interesting stuff is to the left, and both paths are about equally difficult and face the exact same challenges, so it doesn't make much of a difference which route you take.

Addendum: Thanks to Ares for pointing out what appears to be a message spelled out in stones, shown with its location in Loathing to the right (you'll probably have to turn off bound observer to see it). Smasher researched the problem and found that it reads "David" in braile.

Addendum: IronDuke points out that the symbols on the World Knots have changed since TFL, and postulates that the symbols on the knots may vary depending on its destination.
