Gonen's Bridge

Gonen's Bridge is the first map in Myth II with clear-cut alternate paths to take, so I will go into a little bit of detail on the differences between those paths here. The map below shows the two paths you can take. The Dark will follow you either way, so there's not a whole lot of advantage, but there are some differences.

The top map is the standard, recommended path. It is lower ground, however, and you will find most of your battles fighting slightly uphill. It is also a longer path to take, as you can see. The bottom map is higher ground but with a steeper battle at the end, and is altogether shorter.

Along both paths you will find signposts like those shown here. All of them point in the right direction to Gonen's Bridge. It seems that they disappear if you play this level on Legendary.

At the start of the level your units' conversation encourages you to run from a massive enemy horde behind you, and for new players that is indeed a wise strategy. But experienced players, such as Ryan "Smasher" Woodward here, can take out the hordes and free themselves from rushing the rest of the level.

However, even if you do kill the horde at the beginning, this new horde will spontaneously appear after you cross the bridge at the end. I guess Bungie took into account that some Mythmasters would try to break the script, and put failsafes in to thwart us. :-)

Last but not least, a vital part of this level is your Warrior Captain, Garrick. He doesn't seem to kick nearly as much ass as Captains from TFL, unfortunately.

Addendum: It seems that there is an alternate version of the overhead map for this level in the tags. Obviously from an older and less attractive version of the colormap.

Addendum: Thanks to that mad map fiend Ares of Creation for pointing out that there are two Mahir hidden on this map, who flee when you approach them. One is selected in Loathing on the left of this image, with their locations shown on Loathing maps on the right.

Addendum: Thanks to Rincewind for pointing out that there is a hidden "Eat At Joe's" on this colormap. Shown here is a screenshot, with the lower-right corner of the overhead map inset.

And here is that same shot with the words highlighted, in case you can't make them out in the previous shot.
