Down A Broken Path

This level is again fairly straightforward. There are two paths you can take, but I will get to the second one later on. The standard route is simply to follow Rurik. Even if you do take the detour, you will just wind up following Rurik again.

The first thing of note is, of course, Rurik. One of the four Ruriks from the previous level is apparently a pretty important person, and he is to lead us to the mayor of Tallow in this level. Interestingly enough, if he dies you will hear "Rurik has been killed!" and "You bastards!", a play on a South Park line.

As you approach the end of the level, with the forces of the Dark right on your tail, this brave villager here will command his minions to your aid with a mighty screech of "Chickens, ATTACK!" Unfortunately the chickens seem even dumber than the Thrall, and this potentially great general is lost forever.

If you follow Rurik straight to the mayor, the next and last interesting thing you will find is... the mayor. Yes, this villager is the mayor. If he dies, you lose the level, and Rurik walks to face him when he enters the town. In this shot he was coincidentally named "Tuncer", but that is not reproducible.

Now, the first real easter egg of the game - and this one features real easter eggs! Near the northwest corner of the map you will find a small island with three frogs, croaking "Soul... blight... er..." (in parody of the Budweiser beer ads, of course).

On loading the next level, you will be treated to the most interesting cutscene. Here we see a panoramic shot of the Myth II team.

Then, Bungie employees working on a map...

...and a deer in the crosshairs? What the hell?

When the level finishes loading, you will find yourself NOT on Into the Breach, but instead on "A Long Awaited Drinking Party", level 03a. This uses the exact same mesh as Down A Broken Path, and thus is covered in this Field Guide. On this rather difficult level, you find yourself commanding drunken redneck hicks...

...and hunting nuclear deer! You gotta love that Bungie sense of humor. The objective of this map is very simple - kill all deer - but their highly exposive nature and the Poachers' unreliability make that difficult. Good luck! (If you fail this level, you can simply skip straight ahead to "Into The Breach").
