News Updates { Zandervix }

Sorry for the lack of news lately folks. The Tru7h is, there just hasn't been much. However, that's sure to change. While milling around in the forums of some Myth sites, the word on the streets is that PlayMyth will be beginning heavy testing on the Myth 3 server soon. Also, that the TFL server is coming around. Stay tuned for more info on this.

Also, rumor has it that The Mill will be returning soon (no, really). Also, a Mill type site, a new mapmaking group, and a tournament may all be coming in the next few weeks. "Viva La Myth!"

New TFL support on GameRanger { Gholsbane }

The latest preview release of GameRanger 3 contains support for Myth: TFL. (Myth II support has been included for some time.) MariusNet Moves Myth II Night { Zandervix }

Since last week was fraught with technical difficulties, and the fact that Friday's are typically a nite people want to go out or just start enjoying their weekend... "M2 on Mnet" Nite is moving to Wednesday's.

Madskillz - The Mapmaking CCG { Gholsbane }

This just in from Joyesue of TMBM:

I've uploaded Madskillz - The Mapmaking CCG to Mythmaps. It's a collectable card game, a lot like Magic: the Gathering, based around the mapmaking and Myth communities. I decided to release everything in Photoshop format when I realized I wasn't working on it anymore, so that people could make their own cards if they felt so inclined. I just hope some people get a kick out of it.

MOS is Still Kicking! { Zandervix }

The Ministry of Security has been a little light on function since the closing of Bungie.net. But now, they have updated their site with info on the MariusNet and PlayMyth Admins. Here's the scoop:

Secondly, I decided to make some major updates to the site. The day of the admin certainly did not die with the loss of b.net, although it may have changed a bit. Both Marius.net and PlayMyth.net have their own set of admins, yet neither site for their respective servers seems to give an in-depth look at their crime-fighting cadre. So, a little dusting off of some of the old pages here results in some new information for you, the player. I've decided to list information regarding the admins for both of the post-b.net servers, and the related screen shots of what they look like on the game. Now granted, I've only got a few to start with, but I don't get as much time to play anymore as I might like. If you've got a screen shot of an admin for either Marius.net or PlayMyth.net that isn't already on our list, sending those in to us would really help to better update this section of our site.

Myth Ads goes live { Gholsbane }

I have set up a new Myth related web page which I thought you might be interested in. It's called "Myth Ads" and it is a free classified ads system for any and all Myth gaming related needs - myth gamers can use it to find other gamers, maps, or orders, to set up game nights, or to post myth tournament news items. I envision the ads as a complementary service to existing Myth community sites, not as any kind of competition, since I think it meets a need in the community without replacing or infringing on any services that existing Myth sites like yours provide.

If you get a chance, please check it out - I think it could provide a great service if enough people hear about it and start using it.

If you do check it out and you think it looks worthwhile/useful I would appreciate any help in spreading the word - either officially or word of mouth to friends would be great. If you don't think it's useful or you see some problems with it, I would appreciate that feedback - all feedback is useful and appreciated (of course positive feedback is ok too).

MariusNet News { Zandervix }

MariusNet has a number of things going on, so here's the scoop. First off: TFL night is tonight (Thursday), and SB night is tomorrow (Friday). The map for SB night will be "House of Pain." You can get it here. Here is the description from MythForums:

Some history of HoP...

Basically, House of Pain's idea was to do 'deathmatch' before the deathmatch option was in. You started with 16 dorfs in cells outside the playing field, then one by one they would spawn in to 15 spawn points in the arena. When one dorf died, another one would spawn in.

Then Bungie put in the deathmatch option... and so the map was tweaked with 'deathmatch' variants that have only 1 dorf per team, and of course with deathmatch he'll respawn in the cell when you die, then spawn to the playing field. This mesh was added bacause the WW2 solders were able to rpg the 'cell' units - kinda breaking the idea.

So basically, choose either the Dwarf Riot Ghol Riot Detchmatch meshes, turn Deathmatch *on* - and you're good to go. You'll get the hang of it quickly. If you turn on Titans, then ghols become grenaders and dwarfs become RPG solders.

Well, we've been making changes to the TFL scoring system (to mirror the SB scoring system), those changes are mostly done. First, the data is now being processed over on MythForums. The formula is basically the same as it's always been, but now it looks at game data for the last 90 days instead of 31 days. Be sure to check out the TFL Leaderboard for various custom rankings, such as FFA Only, No Plugins, Game Specific, and many others.

Also, the TFL (and SB) ranking and stats are now updated every 5 to 10 minutes, on the web and on the game server. Remember, this isn't your 'old' b.net scoring system, it is based on several factors that are computed rather than a 'point' system. If you want to get an idea what is used to compute the MCS (Mariusnet Computer Score) - check out an earlier explanation here. It is mostly accurate but I do need to update a few things, you can get the general idea though (some day I'll create a web page for it, heh).

TFL Leaderboard Is Now Up { Zandervix }

MythForums reports that the TFL Leaderboard for MariusNet is now up and ready to be viewed. Also, for a quick look, you can see the TFL Top 8 on the MythForums main page.

MythPortal Is No More { Zandervix }

As reported yesterday, MythPortal is gone as of today. The new site is GamerTalk.com, a more broad-based gaming site. However, there is still a section (read:multiple categories) in the forums devoted to Myth.

The Mill to Return Soon(tm) { Zandervix }

A small change on The Mill's frontpage now says that it will return "Soon." That is all.

Myth Portal Goes Bye-Bye { Zandervix }

MythPortal announced today that.. well.. just see for yourself:

As of approximately 6pm tonight I will be bringing this site offline for a hour or so. Once I complete the move to the new server this site will no longer function. Well at least not the way it does today. Once I have the new site ready I will place a redirect here to the new site. That way everyone can update their bookmarks. Don't worry the redirect will be in place for months. So anyone visiting between now and sometime in September 2002 will be told to update their bookmarks to the new site.

MariusNet 'Ages' Their Ranking System { Zandervix }

Here is an excerpt from a post in the forums over at MariusNet:

One of the things the MCS does is 'age' games. Games played in the last 7 days are worth 100%. Games 8 days old are worth (100 -8)/100 or .92 (or 92%) of full value. Games 20 days old are worth (100 - 20)/100 or .80 (or 80%) of full value, and so on. Meaning a game played 90 days ago will be worth only 10% of full value. This aging process means there is never a need for a reset. All games will eventually age out of the report.

Lots -O- Stuff Happening at MariusNet { Zandervix }

Tonight is TFL night on MariusNet. Tomorrow is SB night. And right now, you can use a new command to see the folks in your order. Those guys over there are rockin'! Here's the deal with SB night tomorrow:

Packing a lot of bang for the buck, the featured map (actually maps) this week is the Mudpit/Carnage combo pack from M0bitz. You can check the out the readme here and download it from either of the links below (or check your favorite HL site, or check the forum, I'm sure someone will be posting other links).

Added the .orderlist command. It works just like .buddylist except it lists the people in your order. Refer to the online help for more info.

Orders on MariusNet { Zandervix }

Thanks to PrplPplEater we now support orders much sooner than we would have (for SB *and* TFL). Head over to MythForums to create or join your order. You can have a different order for TFL and SB and you must specifically join one for each game (if you're in an order for that game that is).

Here's something that may be a bit tricky. Since your Myth Forums login name doesn't have to match your marius net login name, there are a couple of things you can do to link them. The easiest way is when you create your user account on Myth Forums. If you enter the same user name and e-mail that you used for your marius net account you don't have to do anything else. If you've already created a user, or for some reason can't use the same information, then go here and follow the instructions.

The order information is updated on the marius net server once per hour.

We don't have a lot of functionality on the server yet, but you can see what order people are in by using the .info command. We'll be adding more features later that take advantage of orders.

We also modified the .stats command slightly. When you're viewing .stats for a player, you can specify the game client you want stats for. For example use .stats conner,sb to see conner's SB stats, or .stats conner,tfl to see his TFL stats. This only works when using a login - it won't work when selecting a player from the list.

MythForums Updates It's Order System { Zandervix }

Check out MythForums to get the following straight:

In recognition of the fact that some people belong to one order when playing TFL and a separate one when playing Myth2, we now allow you to join one for each !

When you go to join an Order/Clan, just select which game you're joining that order for.

All existing members that are registered in an order have defaulted to having theirs be a Myth2 Order to keep things simple. If you want to change it, just go and join it as a TFL order, then leave it as a Myth2 Order. Confused ? Check it out and it should make sense to ya =)

PlayMyth announced today that a FULL reset will happen later on this afternoon. I'm sure the r4nk h00rz are in an uproar right now, while those who generally suck (such as myself) rejoice. Much carnage to follow, news at 11.

MythWA Goes "Brutal" { Zandervix }

Here's the news from MythWA:

How badly can you beat your enemies? We are starting a ranking of the most brutal beatings ever for Myth 2.

This is focused on pure kills/dmg. The idea is that you send us films where you believe you have the best kills/dmg ratio ever. You have then got a chance to compete for a spot on the "beating list". (Btw, for obvious reasons the films will be FFA games)

Each week we will display a new map that you can fight for the title upon. (you are allowed to send old films of the specific map). The first week we will do Spiderweb!

The ranking lists for previous weeks maps will remain on the site in an archive. However, you will only be able to send films for the map that is up for that given week and not for maps that the title for has already been won.

When you send us your films, write the dmg/kills for the map in your email. Send us your Spiderweb films!
