THE FIVE CHAMPIONS
THE FIVE CHAMPIONS APPROACH THE DECEIVER'S CAMP. |
Wednesday November 19, The Barrier
I have turned back my journal a few months and placed the next
two entries in chronological order after Bagrada, where they seem
most appropriate.
I did not witness the events I am about to relate, but instead
repeat here the stories of those who survived them. It wasn't
until after the disaster at Forest Heart that the rest of us even
heard about any of this.
It all started when The Nine learned that Alric had been captured
by The Deceiver, and his army decimated. I'm not certain how they
figured this out, but I'll bet The Head told them (and this was
back when the Head could do no wrong).
At the behest of the Nine, our officers chose five champions from
among the Legion. They were carried over the mountains by balloon
and dropped at night in the rough desert twenty miles from The
Deceiver's camp.
Their instructions were to rescue Alric by any means available,
and to return him to the west. I believe that The Nine were suspicious
of the circumstances surrounding Alric's capture, and wished to
discover why The Head had sent him over the mountains. |

Go to the Field Guide Entry documenting this level's easter eggs and points of interest with
pictures.
Mission Objective: Find Alric and release him.
Interesting Scenery: As the Five Champions climb out of one canyon they see an interesting
drawing on the ground, and when they climb in they see another
one.
Fun Bug: See Alric get mad at some innocent Soulless. Or kill him and
still win!
Notes: Those Five Heros look different than the cutscene. And where did
all those Warriors come from? (Warriors, Josh?) |
The following image is an actual pregame pic cut from the final release. |

Alric has been captured and is now being interrogated by the Deceiver.
It almost looks as if he is being interrogated inside The Tain.
Or is it just nighttime outside? |
If you win this level you see scavenger birds eating a dead ghol.
If you lose you see scavenger birds eating poor dead Alric.
|
Before the level starts there is a cutscene that raises a question... |
Hot Desert sun... |
Some ghôls lying in wait for our 5 champions, but are they our
champions?... |
Here is a close up of them. Am I the only one who sees two dwarves,
one journeyman, one berserk, and one archer? Perhaps originally
this level called for these troops, but was changed later after
the cutscene was animated.
More questions arise in the field guide. |

Legends and Lore is really Forrest's baby, though Gholsbane probably does more work on it nowadays. It also contains a lot of work from the Myth Nontoxic days whose exact authors have been lost or forgotten. Some of these lemurs include Joshstar, Orange, Lacrymosa, and poena.dare. Original "Journal of the Legion" concept by poena.dare and Hamish Sinclair. Other authors are credited as appropriate in their individual articles.

Myth at Bungie.org is now maintained almost entirely by Gholsbane and Zandervix; Forrest is (theoretically) still around calling the shots when he can be bothered to check his email, and Claude, as always, OWNZ U. Original Nontoxic webpage design copyright (c) 1998 by Joshstar; updates and revisions mostly by Forrest. Many thanks to all those old Nontoxic munkies - you know who you are.
