A LONG AWAITED PARTY This is level eighteen of
   Myth: The Fallen Lords.
Go to the Journal for literature and interpretation of the level.

To make it this far in the secret level you must have a great deal of patience with game restorations...

SCREENSHOT OF DWARVES DESTROYING STONE IDOL

You win by destroying this stone idol. Cram a bunch of satchel charges under the 'nose' of the idol or have Balin toss in a Dwarven air-strike signal flare. Then you can say you beat the secret level, hurray!

In case you can't beat it, you can download a film showing Joshstar's victory [mac] [win]. Enjoy. For further enjoyment, try this film [mac] [win] sent in by Jeremy Hildebrand where not only does he win, but he kills every single baddie on the entire level!

Deep in the depths of the tags.gor file, in the script code which handles the monsters in A Long Awaited Party, can be found this mysterious message:

Let me straighten that out for you:

and it's getting a little of the cut and paste treatment like you'd expect. Mark and I really brought it together on 25, though, so don't judge us by this one.

Colony Ship after All Roads Lead to Sol and, now, balanced skill and time just about right, so can I forget 18 (this one, mocking Tolkien) is my last level for myth

The Great Devoid? the guilt has been pursuing me like a cloud a angry hornets for, ah, how many years is that now? three? four?

Better? Yes, but it still seems to be rather fragmented. But wait! If you reorder the text, it makes much more sense:

Colony Ship after All Roads Lead to Sol and, now, balanced skill and time just about right, so can i forget 18 (this one, mocking Tolkien) is my last level for myth and it's getting a little of the cut and paste treatment like you'd expect. mark and i really brought it together on 25, though, so don't judge us by this one.

The Great Devoid? the guilt has been pursuing me like a cloud a angry hornets for, ah, how many years is that now? three? four?

Mark refers to Mark Bernal, who worked on the texturing and art for Myth. 25 refers to the Great Devoid. 18 refers to A Long Awaited Party. Colony Ship [for Sale, Cheap] and All Roads Lead to Sol are levels in Marathon and Marathon 2, respectively. Both were designed by Jason Jones, whom presumably was the author of the hidden message.

Thanks to Artic Ape, via Case and the Myth Codex for pointing this out, and Brian Kendig for suggesting the reordering of the text.

Watch out, Pacman is on the loose! Durandal found this little patch of dirt somewhere on the texturemap. For the 80's impaired we have outlined the general shape in red so you can see what we are getting at.

Pacman

Chances are this is just a coincidence, but how many times have you looked up at a cloud and seen a white sheep, a dragon, or a fluffy thrall? It's only as wonderful as your imagination makes it (?).

Another interesting thing, just a bug really. You know the second cave you pass, where you would expect that little guard Ghol to call a bunch of his buddies from? But he doesn't, right? Wrong. As you walk past it, that Ghol will start running away. Leave him alone. Don't touch him. Send one Dwarf, probably Balin, to follow him and keep an eye on him. He'll run back to the first cave, cheer/taunt as if to call out the other Ghols (as happens a lot in Sons of Myrgard and happens once on this level, at the very cave he's now cheering at, but by another Ghol). Then the other Ghols will come out of the cave he was guarding, where your Dwarfs are now standing, waiting with a pile of satchel charges. So a Ghol guards one cave, runs to another, call his buddies, who come running out of the cave that first Ghol was guarding. Strange indeed.

Legends and Lore is really Forrest's baby, though Gholsbane probably does more work on it nowadays. It also contains a lot of work from the Myth Nontoxic days whose exact authors have been lost or forgotten. Some of these lemurs include Joshstar, Orange, Lacrymosa, and poena.dare. Original "Journal of the Legion" concept by poena.dare and Hamish Sinclair. Other authors are credited as appropriate in their individual articles.

Myth at Bungie.org is now maintained almost entirely by Gholsbane and Zandervix; Forrest is (theoretically) still around calling the shots when he can be bothered to check his email, and Claude, as always, OWNZ U. Original Nontoxic™ webpage design copyright (c) 1998 by Joshstar; updates and revisions mostly by Forrest. Many thanks to all those old Nontoxic™ munkies - you know who you are.
