Thanks to Caleb Hutchins for pointing this out. On the Oct 98 MacAddict CD, and no doubt in numerous other places, there is a Myth II teaser showing plenty of scenes from TFL, its various awards, and then previewing Myth II. However, there are quite a number of odd things about this movie, both M2 things which changed before release and TFL things which coudn't have been changed since it was out already. I'll let the pictures do the talking. Well, and the words that go with them.
The traditional "vortex/shockwave/Bungie" logo spins out of the blackness, and fades.
Cue drum-heavy music. Fade in: "In 1997". Crossdissolve music to Tain theme, fade out, then fade in "A Revolution". Shift music again to the Myth theme, fade out and in again, "Began." Fade out "Began", zoom out to "Myth: The Fallen Lords" logo.
Battle scenes from a game of Territories on Dance or Spiderweb in Myth TFL. At the end of these scenes, we see a Ghols hack a Dwarf about to throw a bottle and subsequently get blown to pieces when it explodes, on cue with the music's climax of course. By the way his cleaver flies, this is obviously a film of the 40oz film "Cleaver From The Heavens".
Ghols chant, as the movie cuts to the text: "Best Real-Time Strategy Game -PC Gamer"
The music shifts again, and now we are treated to a few shots of what appears to be CTF on If I Had A Trow. All fairly normal, cool cinematography, but there are some odd sounds when the Trow kick the Myrmidons. This is obviously after the release of TFL, so why are the sounds not release versions?
Same track of music continues playing, but shifts up a gear, adding an air of tension. Cut to "Best Game of 1997 -MacWorld Magazine"
Same music continues, and we see a few shots from "Sons of Myrgard". Then some more from "Shadow of the Mountain". Then "Heart of the Stone". Then back to Shadow again for a dramatic shot of a dead Dwarf's bottle flying past the camera, cued again on the music's climax.
The music cuts to the dramatic, desperate them from "The Last Battle", and the image cuts to "Strategy Game Of The Year -Computer Gaming World". Then we are treated to a number of scenes from The Last Battle, to accompany the music.
Same music continues, as we cut through a few shots of the devastating explosions from the 40oz film "Don't Play With Wighty". There is a shot of one detonation, a closeup of it, and then a shot of the other. The scene then cuts back to some more Last Battle.
That music ends as some zerks get fried by Fetch, and a semi-desperate, semi-victorious theme begins playing. The screen cuts to "Game Of The Year -Computer Games Strategy Plus", and then back to the Last Battle. There is an odd sound when Alric pulls the Eblis Stone on Balor. Again, why would the sounds change?
The zerks hack off Balor's head, and are teleported away. Cut to the Great Devoid. Soulblighter stands blocking the path. Then we see him hacking two Dwarves up. Cut to the third Dwarf throwing the head in the hole. Camera angle changes and we can see Soulblighter charging right at him, but the Devoid explodes and Soulblighter turns into crows right before reaching the Dwarf. Great cinematography there.
Cue up the victory music from Myth II. Text says "The Revolution", followed by a shot of the famous windmill, "Has Just" followed by a shot of some chickens milling around there, "Begun", followed by a shot of an unknown urban map with a Maul walking through it; except the Maul is taller than the buildings!
Fade in the Myth II logo. Fade out. Then there are a number of shots from Myth II, many of which are not possible in the release version. First we see a shot of some Brigands, running! As we saw no normal warriors in many of these early levels, it is thought that Brigands were meant to replace warriors, but were "demoted" by popular demand to bring the old warrs back.
Next we see a Dwarf attacking an unknown hooded unit. There are no Thrall in any of these early M2 shots either, and it is thought that this unit was meant to be the replacement Thrall. It has since been released as a third-party unit, and is commonly known as a "lich".
Then there is a running bowman, running away from a running brigand, who gets shot down by one of the bowman's friends. I have to say those running animations look a lot more like real battle scenes than the walking ones everyone uses nowadays.
Now we get to see more of these hooded Thrall, as they are shot with the brand-spanking-new fire arrows that never made it into TFL.
There are a few battle scenes of brigands/warriors running around in "The Baron", and then a few more battle scenes on "Into The Breach". It seems that these two levels, the training map, and that unknown level the Maul was on are the only four levels they show in this movie.
Here we see some giant Mauls attacking some brigands on the training map, in what appears to be a net game because of those unit colors.
And finally, some more big Mauls on that unknown level, holding a flag in what looks like a game of Flag Rally.
Fade out. Fade in "Myth II: Soulblighter" logo. Fade out, and in to "COMING SOON". Fade out, pause a moment in darkness, and then flash in to "www.bungie.com" as the music climaxes. |
